FIRST SNOW IN MINNESOTA

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

The Rotary Youth Exchange experience lived and told by a protagonist that, with the incomparable lightness and direct capabilities that only young people are able to get, describes her first overseas snowfall and, in a few, simple and clear words, the significance of student exchange.
Over seven thousand kilometers divide Carlotta from his family, friends, school and yet she seems to minimize what actually is a big commitment and a huge opportunity for life. I believe it is just modesty because, after all, most of these guys know very well what they are doing.
And if this is not a real journey then tell me what it is.

It was a normal day, like the others.
I woke up at 6:30, I had an energy bar and a cup of coffee for breakfast and then I went directly to school.
I went out of the house, jumped in my host sister’s car and then realize that the weather wasn’t that good. The sky was grey and it was quite cold, at least for me. Although the temperature wasn’t really good, I could still see some girls wearing short dresses and guys with just a t-shirt.

It was kinda weird but I know that they are used to this climate.
I was in a rush, so I didn’t take my winter jacket with me. I was about to do it, but it was already 7:30 and since lessons start at 7:50.
We were late.
I’m not gonna lie, that first half of the morning was really boring, I could “feel the weather” (like Italians say). It means that since the weather wasn’t actually good, I was feeling tired and I had no energy. Especially after lunch I was feeling even more weary.

“…basically what we do is living a normal life, going to school, doing sport, make new friends and especially have a lot of fun!”

But then, during 6th period, I just looked outside the window and suddenly, in like 20 seconds, it started snowing. I was really surprised because the day before It was sunny and the weather was good, but then It was just cold and snowy.
I was really excited, not because I had never seen snow before, but it was my first snow during my exchange year in Minnesota!

Well, I think that you all need an explanation to this. I’m an exchange student living in Orono, Minnesota.
Some of you may think – Who is an exchange student? –
It’s just a person that is living in another country with a host family for a certain period of time. The duration of the exchange can vary, I’m personally doing a whole year of exchange. So basically what we do is living a normal life, going to school, doing sport, make new friends and especially have a lot of fun!
It’s been three months since I first got here and I love staying here, I love the place and the people living here are really nice. I love everything that is happening during this exchange!!
